To Be Still and Know...God's Power

"I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God's power for us who believe him.  This is the same power mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God's right hand in the heavenly realms.  Now He is far above any ruler, or authority or power or leader or anything else- not only in this world but also in the world to come."  Ephesians 1:19-21

Last night my oldest child asked me what the term "faith that can move a mountain" meant. He was having fun ideas of being able to fly and literally pick up mountains and while I truly do believe that if there was a purpose for us to do those things, God could certainly make it happen, I explained to my son about metaphorical mountains that faith in God is able to move.  You know what I am talking about. Those mountains of human impossibility that stand in our way.  These mountains come in many shapes and sizes and kinds.  They can come in the form of fear.  When God calls us to step out and do something completely different that we have never done before, maybe something we aren't even sure we can do or have the resources to do, that mountain of fear and doubt pops ups blocking the path. Sometimes these mountains come in the form of worry.  When a situation arises that causes us to wonder why God is allowing something to take place or how He will work things out, the mountain of worry and anxiety pops up looming dark and scary in front of us.  Sometimes these mountains come in the form of circumstance.  We see the end goal of a situation but there are hills and mountains of seemingly impossible circumstances to get past before reaching that goal.  The mountain of uncertainty and weariness pop up and it feels easier to just give up because those mountains seem impossibly exhausting and too hard to climb.  The point is, we all face metaphorical mountains throughout our life.  There isn't one person who has lived, is living, or will ever live who will not face a mountain or two or ten throughout their life.  Praise the Lord we, as God's children (see the first underlined portion of the verse above..."incredible greatiness of God's power for us who believe in him.") have the Creator of the Universe, the Savior of our souls, the One who parted the Red Sea and allowed Moses and the Israelites to cross safely or dry ground, the One who raised people from the dead, turned water into wine, commanded Peter to walk on water, healed deadly diseases with just a word from his lips, fed thousands of people with 5 little loaves and 2 fish, and died and came back to life 3 days later fully conquering death, at work in us, through us, and for us!  Be still and let that sink deep into your heart and mind!  If we take time to soak in God's Word and what it tells us of God's mighty power, if we take time to remember who God really is, if we understand that His power is in us and all around us we will certainly live our lives differently, more confidently and more peacefully.  We will realize we don't have to do anything alone.  We will realize it's not up to us to figure it all out and have all the answers before we step out in faith.  Our only job is to TRUST God at His Word.  To remove ourselves, as sometimes we become our own obstacle, and let God's power work.  We must get in God's Word daily to build up our faith and so that we can have that kind of faith that moves mountains, the mountains of fear, doubt, worry, anxiety, self, circumstance and uncertainty.  "You don't have enough faith, Jesus told them.  I tell you the truth, if you had faith  even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it would move.  Nothing would be impossible."  Matthew 17:20

I can speak from experience that time spent being alone with God, reading His word and praying from the heart, is never time wasted.  I have grow so much in my walk with the Lord this year.  I accepted Jesus as my Savior when I was 5 years old and have grown over the years but in this past year, I made a choice to dive into God's Word DAILY and to really spend time in prayer, just between my heart and God's, and wow have I learned so much, and my faith has grown by leaps and bounds.  I literally crave God's Word now.  I have been a Christan for 26 years and for the first time I crave Gods' Word, can't get enough of it.  Why?  Because I made the choice to take time to be still every single day and dig into His Word.  He has blessed that choice by growing my faith and my love for Him and His Word and by giving me opportunities to serve Him by encouraging and ministering to others.  God is still in the mountain moving business, we just have to have faith that He can, He will and He wants to!

Same Power by Jeremy Camp

"God stretches the northern sky over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing.  He wraps the rain in his thick clouds, and the clouds don't burst with the weight.  He covers the face of the moon, shrouding it with his clouds.  He created the horizon when he separated the waters; he set the boundary between day and night.  The foundations of heaven tremble; they shudder at his rebuke.  By his power the sea grew calm.  By his skill he crushed the great sea monster.  His Spirit made the heavens beautiful, and his power pierced the gliding serpent .  These are just the beginning of all that he does,  merely a whisper of his power.  Who, then, can comprehend the thunder of his power."  Job 26:7-14
