A Little Something Different...

This post won't be quite like my others but I believe it's a very important topic we as Christians need to be thinking about and in prayer over.  Our nation is getting further and further away from the Lord and the principles of the Bible.  Our nation is not what I would consider a truly Christian nation anymore.  (Many people claiming to be "Christian" are not.  "Not everyone who calls out to me, 'Lord! Lord! will enter the Kingdom of Heaven.  Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter."  Matthew 7:21 but that is not what this blog post is about so I digress.)  Just in the past decade I have seen the world reject Jesus and the Word of God more and more.  It's even infiltrating the churches today, where church leaders are turning away from teaching God's Word in order to "get with the times".  This makes me extra thankful for the church we attend.  The Word of God is thoroughly taught verse by verse week after week.  Be thankful for those churches that refuse to waiver and who stand firm on the Word of God! They are like a lighthouse in the middle of a storm.  We are in spiritual warfare and these churches that stand firm on God's Word are a light in the darkness for us spiritually!  "Your Word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path."  Psalm 119:105
We as Christians should long for leadership that follows after the Lord.  Whose choices and morals come from God's Word and who pray daily.  We have an election next year and I believe so strongly that we as Christians need to be spending time in prayer regarding this election.  (I also believe we should be active in praying for our current leadership as well!)  "...The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results."  James 5:16b  I am not sure how exactly prayer changes things or makes things happen, but I do know God's Word is very clear about prayer being vitally important, extremely powerful and has the ability to make things happen.  So if God's Word says it I believe it!  I spent time today praying for our next President; that God would raise up someone who would be a person of God, who would have strong Bible based morals and ethics and who would lead this country in a Godly manner.  I then read through God's Word to find some passages to apply to this request.  Here are two I found.
"The kings heart is like a stream of water directed by the Lord; He guides it wherever he pleases."  Proverbs 21:1  We can rest assured that no matter how it seems, God is ultimately in control.  We can pray this verse over any of our leadership, that regardless of laws that may be passed or rejected that God is in control and is allowing things to happen the way they are supposed to happen.
"Never before had there been a king like Josiah, who turned to the Lord with all his heart and soul and strength, obeying all the laws of Moses.  And there has never been a king like him since."  2 Kings 23:25 Oh to have a President like King Josiah!  What a man of God!  This verse became my prayer for our next President, that he would be a man of God like this nation has never had before.  We as children of God should desire this and be praying for this very thing.  I implore you to pray this verse with me daily for our next President.  That God will raise up a person like King Josiah to lead our nation!

"So don't boast about following a particular human leader.  For everything belongs to you-whether Paul or Apollos or Peter, or the world, or life or death, or the present and the future.  Everything belongs to you and you belong to Christ and Christ belongs to God."  1 Corinthians 3:21-23  We need to be very careful not to get so caught up in a particular candidate that we take our eyes off God and His power.  We must remember that God is the one in true control, even when our world seems like a mess.  (If you read about the progression toward the end times, things have to get worse to fulfill prophecy and that is just what is happening!)  Keep your eyes on the Lord and pray earnestly for God to raise up someone to lead our nation back to Him.  And remember that above all else God has already overcome the world!
"In this world, you will have trouble but take heart for I have overcome the world."  John 16:33
